Built for weather that breaks other pergolas. Heavy-duty 200 Series aluminum, 150 mph wind rated, 45 PSF snow load. When the storm rolls through and the snow piles up, Summit does not move.

How Summit Compares

You have three other options. Here is an honest look at each.

Versus stepping down to Horizon ($3,499)

What matters Horizon (175 Series) Summit (200 Series HD)
Post 135 × 135 mm, 2.0 mm wall 150 × 150 mm, 2.0 mm wall
Beam 180 × 150 mm, 1.7 mm wall 200 × 150 mm, 2.4 mm wall
Louver blade 175 × 40 mm, 1.5 mm 200 × 40 mm, 1.6 mm
Wind rating 130 mph 150 mph
Snow load 35 PSF 45 PSF
Warranty 5 years 10 years
Price (10×10 ft) $3,499 $4,999

The honest trade-off: if your yard is sheltered and you get mild winters, Horizon is genuinely enough and you should save the $1,500. Summit exists for one reason — regions where 130 mph and 35 PSF are not a comfortable margin. Coastal wind corridors, open plains, snow belt states. If that is you, the heavier frame is not a luxury.

Versus mid-market brands ($8,000 – $13,000)

What matters Mid-market brands FANCO Summit
Engineering Comparable — often the same class of extrusion Comparable
Wind / snow rating Typically 130–160 mph 150 mph / 45 PSF
Where the money goes Dealer margin, showroom rent, regional sales rep, brand premium Factory to your driveway
Lead time 8–16 weeks (warehouse and dealer routing) 30–40 business days, direct
Customs and duties Sometimes billed separately on delivery DDP — already paid, no surprise invoice
Price for a 13×10 ft heavy-duty unit $9,000 – $14,000 $5,999

The honest trade-off: you are not buying a weaker pergola at a lower price. You are buying the same class of engineering without the distribution chain. If a local showroom and a regional rep add value for you, that markup is fair. If they do not, it is just cost.

Versus custom and luxury builds ($25,000 – $90,000)

What matters Custom / luxury FANCO Summit
Dimensions Made to your exact millimeter Four standard sizes, 10×10 to 20×13 ft
Extreme weather rating 165–200 mph hurricane spec with permit documentation 150 mph (Apex goes to 165 mph)
Integration Smart home, heaters, audio, motorized screens Motorized roof upgrade and retractable curtains available
Install White-glove crew included DIY-friendly, or hire a local contractor for $600–$1,800
Lead time 3–9 months, engineered per project 30–40 business days

The honest trade-off: if you need certified hurricane rating for a permit application in a coastal county, or your space is not rectangular, buy the custom build. That is the right answer. For a standard rectangular yard in a high-wind or snow-belt region, Summit gives you the structural margin without the five-figure premium.

One thing to check on every quote

Ask any brand — including us — for the actual test report behind their wind rating, and the alloy grade and wall thickness of the posts and beams. A number in a marketing headline is not a rating. A PDF from an accredited lab is. If a seller cannot produce one, that tells you what you need to know.

Assembly & Installation

Option 1 — Do it yourself

Summit is heavier than our lighter series — plan for three people and a full day. Every bolt, bracket, heavy-gauge anchor, and tool is in the crate, along with illustrated step-by-step instructions.

  • Time: 6–10 hours depending on size
  • People: 3 recommended
  • You supply: a power drill, a level surface, and ideally a helper with lifting experience
  • Cost: $0

Option 2 — Hire a local contractor

Given the frame weight, many Summit customers hire out. Any competent deck contractor can handle it. Send them the instruction manual before they quote.

  • Typical cost: $600–$1,800 depending on region and size
  • Time: most of a day

Foundation requirements

Summit is heavier and rated for higher loads — the foundation matters more:

  • Concrete slab (6 inch minimum recommended for Summit)
  • Paver patio over a properly compacted base
  • Reinforced deck — verify joist rating against the shipping weight plus snow load
  • Poured footings below frost line for snow-belt installations

Permits

Requirements vary by city and county. In high-wind and snow-load regions, permits are more commonly required even for freestanding structures. Check with your local building department before you install. We provide structural documentation on request for permit applications.

Shipping & Delivery

30 to 40 business days from order confirmation. Free to the contiguous 48 states.

Here is why that number is what it is, and why we are not going to pretend otherwise.

Same-week delivery requires a US warehouse holding inventory, a distributor moving it, and a dealer network selling it. Every one of those layers has rent, payroll, and margin — and all of it ends up in the price you pay. A pergola that ships in five days from a regional warehouse is not faster because it is better engineered. It is faster because you already paid for the warehouse.

We ship direct from the factory that builds your pergola. That is 30–40 business days of ocean freight and customs clearance, and it is the reason a 200 Series heavy-duty pergola costs $4,999 here instead of $12,000 through a showroom.

What DDP means for you

  • All duties and import taxes are pre-paid by us. No customs invoice arrives after delivery.
  • Customs clearance is handled on our side. You never file paperwork.
  • The price at checkout is the total price. Nothing else is owed.

Delivery process

  1. Order confirmed — production scheduled within 3 business days
  2. Tracking number sent when the container departs
  3. Freight carrier calls to schedule a delivery window
  4. Curbside delivery on a pallet — signature required
  5. You move it to the install site (3 people recommended given the weight)

Warranty & Returns

10-Year Structural Warranty

Covers the aluminum frame, the powder-coated finish, and the louver rotation mechanism against manufacturing defects. LED lighting and the optional motorized system carry a 2-year electrical warranty.

Covered: frame cracking or deformation under rated load, finish delamination or blistering, louver mechanism failure, LED driver failure within 2 years.

Not covered: damage from installation that deviates from the manual, weather events exceeding the rated wind or snow load, cosmetic wear from normal use, modifications made after installation.

Warranty applies to the original purchaser and is non-transferable. No registration required — your order number is your warranty record.

100-Day Money-Back Guarantee

If the pergola is not right for you, return it within 100 days of delivery for a full refund. The unit must be unassembled and in original packaging. Return freight is paid by the customer unless the item arrived damaged or defective.

Damaged in transit? Photograph it before you unpack further, email us within 7 days, and we replace the affected parts at no cost.

Frequently Asked Questions

Do I actually need Summit, or is Horizon enough?

Check your local design wind speed and ground snow load — your building department publishes both. If your area is under 110 mph design wind and 25 PSF ground snow, Horizon has comfortable margin and you should save the money. If you are above that, or you are on an exposed lot with no windbreak, Summit is the honest answer.

Does the roof really keep rain out when closed?

Yes. The louvers rotate to a fully sealed overlapping position that forms a watertight ceiling. Summit uses oversized drainage channels sized for heavy rainfall and snowmelt volume. Water runs into the beam channel and down through concealed downspouts inside the posts.

Can it hold actual snow?

Summit is rated to 45 PSF snow load with louvers closed. That is roughly 3–4 feet of light dry snow or 18–24 inches of wet packed snow. In heavy snow regions we still recommend clearing accumulation when practical — the rating is a structural limit, not an invitation.

Can I add the motorized roof later?

It is far easier to add it at the time of order — we pre-install the motor at the factory. Retrofitting after installation is possible but requires partial disassembly of the louver drive shaft. Add the Motorized Roof Upgrade to your order and it arrives ready to go.

How many curtains do I need?

One per side you want enclosed. A 10×10 ft pergola takes four 10 ft curtains. A 13×10 ft takes two 13 ft plus two 10 ft. A 20×10 ft takes two 20 ft plus two 10 ft. A 20×13 ft takes two 20 ft plus two 13 ft.
