How Apex Compares
You have three other options. Here is an honest look at each.
Versus stepping down to Summit ($4,999)
| What matters | Summit (200 Series HD) | Apex (220 Series Flagship) |
|---|---|---|
| Post | 150 × 150 mm, 2.0 mm wall | 150 × 150 mm, 3.0 mm wall |
| Beam | 200 × 150 mm, 2.4 mm wall | 230 × 150 mm, 2.5 mm wall |
| Louver blade | 200 × 40 mm, 1.6 mm | 220 × 53 mm, 1.8 mm |
| Wind rating | 150 mph | 165 mph |
| Snow load | 45 PSF | 55 PSF |
| Warranty | 10 years | 15 years |
| Price (10×10 ft) | $4,999 | $5,499 |
The honest trade-off: $500 separates these two, and for most residential sites Summit already has the margin you need. Apex earns its place in three situations — commercial installations that will see daily operation for a decade, direct coastal exposure, and permitting authorities that want the highest rating on paper. If none of those describe your project, Summit is the smarter buy.
Versus mid-market and premium brands ($10,000 – $20,000)
| What matters | Premium brands | FANCO Apex |
|---|---|---|
| Engineering | Comparable — often the same class of extrusion | Comparable, and thicker than most |
| Wind / snow rating | Typically 140–170 mph | 165 mph / 55 PSF |
| Where the money goes | Dealer margin, showroom rent, regional sales rep, brand premium | Factory to your driveway |
| Lead time | 8–20 weeks (warehouse and dealer routing) | 30–40 business days, direct |
| Customs and duties | Sometimes billed separately on delivery | DDP — already paid, no surprise invoice |
| Price for a 13×10 ft flagship unit | $12,000 – $18,000 | $6,499 |
The honest trade-off: at this tier, the extrusion coming off the line is broadly similar across serious manufacturers. What differs is what sits between the factory and your driveway. If a showroom, a rep, and a white-glove sales process add value for you, that markup is fair. If they do not, it is just cost.
Versus fully custom and architect-specified builds ($30,000 – $90,000)
| What matters | Custom / architect-spec | FANCO Apex |
|---|---|---|
| Dimensions | Made to your exact millimeter, any geometry | Four standard sizes, 10×10 to 20×13 ft, rectangular only |
| Extreme weather rating | Up to 200 mph with stamped engineering for permitting | 165 mph structural, documentation provided on request |
| Integration | Smart home, radiant heaters, audio, motorized screens, misting | Motorized roof upgrade and retractable curtains available |
| Install | White-glove crew with project manager | DIY-capable, or hire a local contractor for $800–$2,000 |
| Lead time | 4–12 months, engineered per project | 30–40 business days |
The honest trade-off: if you need a stamped engineering package for a coastal permit, a non-rectangular footprint, or deep smart-home integration, buy the custom build. That is genuinely the right answer and we will tell you so. For a rectangular installation that needs maximum structural margin without a five-figure premium, Apex is the same engineering with the distribution chain removed.
One thing to check on every quote
Ask any brand — including us — for the actual test report behind their wind rating, and the alloy grade and wall thickness of the posts and beams. A number in a marketing headline is not a rating. A PDF from an accredited lab is. At the $10,000+ tier especially, if a seller cannot produce one, that tells you what you need to know.

Assembly & Installation
Option 1 — Do it yourself
Apex is the heaviest pergola we ship. It is still DIY-capable, but plan for three people and a full day. Every bolt, bracket, commercial-grade anchor, and tool is in the crate, along with illustrated step-by-step instructions.
- Time: 8–12 hours depending on size
- People: 3 minimum
- You supply: a power drill, a level surface, and ideally mechanical lifting help for the larger sizes
- Cost: $0
Option 2 — Hire a local contractor
Most Apex customers hire out, and we recommend it for the 20 ft sizes. Any competent deck or structural contractor can handle it. Send them the instruction manual before they quote.
- Typical cost: $800–$2,000 depending on region and size
- Time: one full day
Foundation requirements
Apex carries the highest loads in our lineup — the foundation is not optional:
- Concrete slab, 6 inch minimum, reinforced
- Poured footings below frost line for snow-belt or high-wind installations
- Paver patio only over a properly engineered compacted base
- Deck installation requires verified joist rating — consult a structural contractor
Permits
Commercial installations and high-wind zone residential installs almost always require a permit. We provide structural documentation on request for permit applications, including alloy specification, wall thickness, and load ratings. Check with your local building department before you order if permitting is a concern.
Shipping & Delivery
30 to 40 business days from order confirmation. Free to the contiguous 48 states.
Here is why that number is what it is, and why we are not going to pretend otherwise.
Same-week delivery requires a US warehouse holding inventory, a distributor moving it, and a dealer network selling it. Every one of those layers has rent, payroll, and margin — and all of it ends up in the price you pay. A pergola that ships in five days from a regional warehouse is not faster because it is better engineered. It is faster because you already paid for the warehouse.
We ship direct from the factory that builds your pergola. That is 30–40 business days of ocean freight and customs clearance, and it is the reason a 220 Series commercial-grade pergola costs $5,499 here instead of $15,000 through a showroom.

Warranty & Returns
15-Year Structural Warranty
The longest warranty we offer. Covers the aluminum frame, the powder-coated finish, and the louver rotation mechanism against manufacturing defects. LED lighting and the optional motorized system carry a 2-year electrical warranty.
Covered: frame cracking or deformation under rated load, finish delamination or blistering, louver mechanism failure, LED driver failure within 2 years.
Not covered: damage from installation that deviates from the manual, weather events exceeding the rated wind or snow load, cosmetic wear from normal use, modifications made after installation.
Warranty applies to the original purchaser and is non-transferable. No registration required — your order number is your warranty record.
100-Day Money-Back Guarantee
If the pergola is not right for you, return it within 100 days of delivery for a full refund. The unit must be unassembled and in original packaging. Return freight is paid by the customer unless the item arrived damaged or defective.
Damaged in transit? Photograph it before you unpack further, email us within 7 days, and we replace the affected parts at no cost.
Frequently Asked Questions
Do I actually need Apex, or is Summit enough?
For most residential backyards, Summit is enough and you should save the $500. Apex earns its place in three situations: commercial installations facing daily operation over a decade, direct coastal exposure with salt air and sustained wind, and jurisdictions where you need the highest rating available on paper for permitting. If none of those apply, buy Summit.
Is this rated for hurricane zones?
Apex is rated to 165 mph structural wind. Whether that satisfies your local hurricane code depends on your county’s design wind speed, exposure category, and whether they require a stamped engineering package. We provide our specification and test documentation on request — check with your building department before ordering if permitting is a requirement.
Can it hold serious snow?
Apex is rated to 55 PSF snow load with louvers closed — the highest in our lineup. That is roughly 4–5 feet of light dry snow or 2 feet of wet packed snow. In heavy snow regions we still recommend clearing accumulation when practical; the rating is a structural limit, not an invitation.
Can I add the motorized roof later?
It is far easier to add it at the time of order — we pre-install the motor at the factory. Retrofitting after installation is possible but requires partial disassembly of the louver drive shaft, and on Apex the blades are heavy enough that this is a two-person job. Add the Motorized Roof Upgrade to your order and it arrives ready to go.
How many curtains do I need?
One per side you want enclosed. A 10×10 ft pergola takes four 10 ft curtains. A 13×10 ft takes two 13 ft plus two 10 ft. A 20×10 ft takes two 20 ft plus two 10 ft. A 20×13 ft takes two 20 ft plus two 13 ft.
Is this suitable for a restaurant or hotel terrace?
Yes — Apex is the series we recommend for commercial use. The 3.0 mm post wall and commercial-duty louver bearings are specified for daily operation. For multi-unit orders or projects needing custom dimensions, email us and we will quote directly.
What if a part is missing or damaged?
Email support@fancooutdoor.com with your order number and photos. We ship replacement parts at no charge for anything missing from the crate or damaged in transit. Response within 1 business day.
Do you offer payment plans?
